Happy Winter

I spent some time last week experimenting with my Altenew watercolor palette. I love mixed media styled anything! So I decided to see if I could create a fun background using stamps from my stash.

I love the colors and how the piece ended up looking, what I don’t love is the white wash I put on the edge with water downed heavy gesso. That was a good learning experience in what not to do! I started with adding random splotches of watercolor on to a piece of Tim Holtz water color paper. Once the water color piece was fully dried I pulled a few stamps out of my stash. They are Julie Nutting stamps the center piece girl, snowflake, and sentiment are from Warm Wishes, the other is a background stamp that I have no idea what the name of it is. I randomly stamped the images on the background pieces using VersaFine Clair ink.

I also attempted a bit of stamping with heavy gesso, if you look closely you can see what should look like berry clusters, lol. I will continue to work on that process until I get it right.

I used Copic Sketch makers to color in the sweet girl image from the warm wishes stamp set. Colors used are in the photo above! I used my Misty stamp positioner to stamper the girl in Memento ink. After she was colored in and fully dried, I stamped over the image in Versafine Clair, doing this makes the image pop and highlights her pretty green dress.

While I do love mixed media pieces and it is a fantastic way to get out creativity, my first thought was what do I do with it now! The finished piece measures 3 1/8″ by 6 1/4″. It is about a 1/4″ longer than a standard mini slimline card, but it fits in a #7 money envelope. So it will be turned into a card and sent out!

To finished of the card, I splatter watered down heavy gesso and silver from the Starry Colors watercolor collection. I stamped out the sentiment and did a quick fussy cut and inked the edges. Then added a few red rhinestones and called it done .I really am enjoying the journey of exploring my ability to create.

I hope you enjoyed this bit of inspiration, if you create using this sketch tag me on social media and use #ldscs. I will add your project to my stories on social media! If you did Leave a comment and let me know! Until next time, Happy Crafting.
