Stary Night Inspiration

Here I go again, 2 challenge cards this week! Just Add Ink put up an inspiration challenge I simply could not pass up. For the inspiration board I took the stary night sky, there is just so calming to me working on a sky scene. I don’t know how many I will be able to work into cards, but sure am going to give it my best effort lol.

Here is the inspiration board for Challenge #JAI691, it is a dream!

For my card I created a watercolor stary sky using my Windsor Newton palette. What goes with a beautiful stary sky? A campfire and an Elephant of course! With that being said, I am still working on my shadowing, so my elephant does not have yellow on it from the glow of the fire. I really did not want to ruin it so I just colored it with color pencils and will keep working on that process.

The ground worked out almost as I intended with the glow of the fire! I ran a brown color pencil over it to give the ground more ground texture.

I added gouache splatter inlayers as the scene dried to give the stars depth. I think they turned out wonderful. With this card I feel like I have proven to myself that I am improving on my watercolor skills.

I used Prisma Color colored pencils to give this elephant life. The Summer Snacks stamp set that a super cute trio of elephants can be found at

I added a few white highlights to the elephant using a .07 White Posca Paint pen. The line on the elephant’s forehead went a bit longer than I wanted, but it is still fun. I would be happy to share a campfire and a smore with this cutie.

If you have any questions or just want to let me know you love this card, please leave a comment! I will always respond.
