Hey there crafty friends, Megan with the design team here. Today I have a card to share that celebrates friendship. The card features the cutest Tate around from the Positive Tate’s Love Notes 4×6 stamp set!
Let me start this post by asking a question, does anyone else have a time out pile/bin/basket/folder? I do! What is it you ask, it is where cards I don’t feel are coming together the way I envisioned, go to take a break. This card sat in the time out pile for about 4 days. I am happy it made it out of the pile and on the blog!
Here is how this card finally came together. I started by cutting a white A2 card base, then I cut a stitched rectangle out of colored cardstock and used the All My Heart 6×6 stencil to create the background. I used Crackling Campfire distress ink to do this.
Then I colored Tate with the heart balloon and fussy cut the image. I laid it on the background and here is where I realized the card just wasn’t going to work for me. So, I moved on to working on the sentiment while I considered my options. I layered two of the sentiments from the Memorable Moments Sentiments 4 x 6 stamp set using colors from the card layers. I love how that sentiment layers worked out.
I laid those on the card but still was not feeling it. Then I added some clear sequences, that was much better. But the card still felt like it was missing something. Then I put the card in the time out pile and walked away.
4 days later while walking through the house I had a brilliant idea (ok maybe not brilliant); Tate needed a sky and grass background. I cut out another stitched rectangle and got to coloring the scene with Copic Markers. The process I use to do this is simple, just add line streaks from the left and right side of the paper in layers of color until it looks like sky and grass. I make sure to overlap the colors so that it gives soft edges instead of rough straight lines. I did my best to match the grass, I mean it was 4 days ago that I colored the image, and I am the worst record keeper. To make the fussy cut image look like it belonged in the background I extended the drawn lines on the left and the right of the image. Then drew in a grass puff on the right side.
I glued down the layers, added those sequences and white gel pen highlights. And what the pictures don’t show is Wink of Stella on all things colored red.
All this to say it is ok not to love a project you’re working on, you might just need time apart to fall in love with it! And I do love this card, and I know exactly who I am sending it to!
